The Catawba Valley Orchid Society (CVOS), is a group of like minded orchid hobbyist and commercial growers that come together in their shared interest in Orchids. The CVOS provides a central in person meeting place, monthly electronic communications, website (CVOS.org), and Facebook functions to promote our shared interest. of surrounding orchid related events, shows and meetings, along with other functions as dictated by the needs of the membership.
Orchids are among the most valued collectible and desired of exotic plants and the largest flowering plant family found worldwide. Number estimates exceed more than 100,000 man-made hybrids and 36,000 plus species. Orchids commercially are a multi-billion dollar world-wide commercial trade item. Rare heritage plants are sold or traded from closely guarded collections, or plants provided by massive commercial wholesale growing ranges, to your local big box stores and supermarkets, the value of yearly orchid sales surpass that of Poinsettia and many other high-value florist crops.
Due to ease of growth, universal availability, and so many unique flower forms, more people today are finding they can be successful growing orchids, This creates the strong desire to learn more about orchids, their care, how to grow and maintain, and most of all enjoy a successful and rewarding experience in growing orchids.
